Almog Shilony’s Home

Almog Shilony’s Home in Modi’in is a happy, warm and supportive home for lone soldiers. The home was founded to reflect Almog Shilony’s values, to commemorate his accomplishments and enable many others to continue in the spirit of his way of life.

Almog Shilony’s Home was inaugurated on March 25th 2015. The home, an apartment, at 7 Hadudaim St. Modi’in, accommodates four soldiers, recognized by the IDF as lone soldiers. The fully accessorized apartment provides a private room for each soldier for the entire time that he is in the IDF service, as well as a matron who takes care of food, cleaning and clothing. Shabbat and Kashrut Dietary Laws are observed in the home.

Almog Shilony’s Home is planned to operate in its current form until the permanent home is established. A home that will accommodate 36 lone soldiers, each in a private room. As an active partner in this project, Modi’in’s municipality will allocate a land for this project.

Adoptive Family

Each soldier is accompanied by an adoptive and supportive family from the community. The adoptive family accompanies the soldier and takes care of all his/her needs, with emphasis on the emotional needs – invitations for weekend meals, daily communication and sincere interest in his/her wellbeing, visits at camp and events such as parents day, ceremonies, beret march and more.

The Goals of Almog Shilony’s Home

  1. To connect the lone soldier to a warm home and an adoptive family in order to help him/her realize his/her potential as an IDF soldier, equal among equals.
  2. To harness the civilians to community action and volunteer for lone soldiers.
  3. To assimilate values such as heroism, loving of the other, giving, mutual assistance and responsibility in the IDF and the society, in the spirit of the memory of Almog Shilony.
  4. Almog’s home will assist the single lone soldier when released from the army in order to help him/her integrate into the Israeli society, as regular citizens.

Future Plans

Almog Shilony’s Home is planned to be located in Modi’in and provide a solution for 108 lone soldiers. During July 2015, a meeting took place with the City Engineer, in which the process of allocating a land in the Almogim neighborhood was approved (near the 443 Highway and Hachashmonain Boulevard junction). This is the first phase of the project. In the forthcoming phases, Modi’in’s municipality, the family and volunteers, will contribute time and effort in planning, founding and populating the home, focused on the wellbeing of the IDF lone soldiers.

While the home is being planned and established, educational activities will be arranged with IDF units to promote the project of integrating the lone soldiers in the Israel society, when released from the army.
